Indulge your love of reading while exploring beautiful Sidney by the Sea! Visit our seaside town and you will discover many bookstores all within easy walking distance of one another - each with its own unique style and treasures.

Sidney Booktown is located on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula of Southern Vancouver Island. It’s a small town treasure offering a collection of unique shops and services, restaurants and bakeries, marine centres and bookstores. Whether you like to explore a museum, rent a kayak, take a walk along the seaside, curl up with a good book, or “shop till you drop” you will find it here in Sidney.

Much of the activity is found along the main streets of Beacon and Bevan Avenues and the waterfront. The best way to enjoy your visit is to park the car and take a leisurely stroll while exploring the local sights. One of the first things you’ll notice is the abundance of bookstores. Established in 1996 and one of only a few in the world, Sidney is Canada’s Only Booktown. Each of the bookshops has a very unique identity and focal point. The bookstore owners are experts in their fields and have put together special collections of thousands titles and categories to choose from.

Established in 1947, The Haunted Bookshop is Vancouver Island’s oldest bookshop. Described in ‘Beautiful British Columbia’ magazine as ‘the sort of antiquarian bookstore bibliophiles dream about’, The Haunted actually caters to recreational readers wanting recent paperbacks and scholars seeking out-of-print material, as well as to collectors of rarities. Its carefully chosen stock includes books on most subjects, as well as unique ephemeral items, maps and prints. Member ABAC/ILAB.

Galleon Books and Antiques is a beautifully set-up store with second-hand books, antiques and collectibles. This shop specializes in non-fiction subjects, including BC history, Exploration, First Nations, Military, and Art History. Antiquarian and collectible books can also be found. Galleon also offers a myriad of period antiques and collectibles. It is worth a visit to meet owners Rod and Brian and discuss their experiences in finding unusual items all over BC and western Canada.
